The crankcase aerosol emissions contribute to the total particle matter emissions of modern combustion engines. Crankcase aerosol deposits can lead to the malfunction of engine components, such as turbochargers and valves. Additionally, combustion residues of the aerosol can negatively affect the performance of the after-treatment-system of exhaust gases. Therefore, this project aims to contribute to reducing crankcase aerosol emissions and extending operational life of combustion engines by acquiring knowledge on aerosol generation and transportation through consistent, size-resolved crankcase aerosol measurements.
