The Institute of Mechanical Process Engineering and Mechanics (MVM) is one of ten institutes of the KIT Faculty for Chemical and Process Engineering (CIW) and with this part of Division I: Biology, Chemistry and Process Engineering at KIT.

The institute consists of four chairs with their associated working groups Gas Particle Systems (GPS), Process Machines (VM), Applied Mechanics (AME) and Digital Process Engineering (DPE). In addition, the cross-faculty research group Latice Boltzmann Reseach Group (LBRG) and the NMR device center Pro2NMR as a joint institution of three institutes are affiliated to the MVM and are anchored in the VM working group. In terms of academia, the Additive Manufacturing (ADD) Working Group is also affiliated with MVM.
