  • It is well known from previous investigations and experience in applications of oil mist filters that filter efficiency deteriorates during filter operation. The liquid saturation of filter media in steady state depends on filtration velocity, loading rate and media properties. In this work the relationship between filtration velocity, corresponding liquid saturation and filter efficiency in oil mist filtration has been thoroughly investigated.

Filter efficiencies have been measured for various glass fiber filter media with varying dry state efficiencies, structural and wetting properties at a wide range of media saturations with a CPC and SMPS. Measurements have been taken at different velocities in steady state. The measurements have shown how saturation in different stages of filter operation affects filter efficiency taking into account the media properties. Currently, this work is being extended to other glass fiber filter media and a wider range of filtration velocities and loading rates.

Recent data obtained in the experiments will be presented, evaluated and discussed.
