Modification of the channel film model for predicting droplet separation in coalescing filters
Oil mists (submicron oil droplets) are usually produced as an undesirable by-product in various processes. They are removed, as they pose a risk to human health, process safety, and the environment. Coalescing filters from micro glass fibers are commonly used for their removal, which consist of several individual layers with different separation behaviors. Each layer contributes differently to the overall filter penetration, depending on several parameters, such as gas velocity, the wettability of the liquid, the degree of saturation of the filter medium, and its structural properties.
To date, only studies on the overall penetration of the filter have been found in the literature. The aim of the project is therefore to provide a tool that can be used to predict the individual penetration contributions of the coalescence, channel, and film areas of coalescence filters for different saturations.
