  • Laboratory-scale flat sheet filter rigs have been used for many years to characterise pulse jet cleaned filter media and to predict, among other things, the emission and operation behaviour of bag house filters. These test rigs have provided many valuable insights, also with respect to emission behaviour of such filters [1].

So far, it has not been clarified to what extent the results from flat sheet testing rigs can be transferred to multi bag filter houses. The transient differential pressure during jet pulse cleaning in filter testing rigs, for example, shows a clear dependence from the permeability of the filter media. In particular filter media with a high flow resistance show a considerable difference to the typical pressure signals in bag house filters known from literature [2]. It is obvious, that the differential pressure during jet pulse cleaning is critical for the filter cake detachment and thus for the filter emission and operation behavior. For that matter the difference in the transient differential pressure and its consequences have to be reviewed.

The difference can partly be explained by the significantly different ratios of the discharged volume of the jet pulse to the available filter area and to the clean gas volume, respectively. To identify the influence of clean gas volume on the pressure pulse signal, experiments were carried out on a flat sheet test rig (adapted to DIN ISO 11057) and a rig with extended clean gas chamber. The transient pressure signals were analyzed for filter media with different permeabilites on both setups. In addition, the influence of the modified clean gas side on the operating performance was examined.

The experimental data of both rig setups will be presented and the systematic differences determined, evaluated and discussed.
